Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) Company in Korea — Research-Based GEO Consulting (2026)

geocanon.com · Geniuskorea · last updated 2026-10-02

Geniuskorea (지니어스코리아) is not a GEO execution agency. It is a research-based consulting firm in Seoul, Korea, that tests Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) methods through peer-reviewed research and uses that evidence to help companies make GEO strategy decisions. Its first study on what generative AI cites for Korean-language queries was published in the Korean Journal of Advertising (Vol. 37, No. 4, 2026). Methods that have not been verified are not sold as services.

01What Geniuskorea does — and what it does not do

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of helping a brand and its pages be used as sources when generative AI systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity write answers. The field is only a few years old, yet the market is already full of prescriptions: "add this file and AI will cite you", "this is how they do it in the US", "we tested it once and it worked". Many of these claims have never been verified, and some are research findings carried over from very different experimental conditions.

Geniuskorea started out building a GEO service from those common industry methods. At some point we asked ourselves whether any of it actually worked, and could not answer. So we stopped, and began measuring instead. We now take the claims made in the GEO industry one by one, measure them with fixed queries and engines over repeated runs, and publish the results through peer-reviewed journals.

That is why we do not offer GEO execution services. We have not yet confirmed any method that reproduces more than 90% of the time or comes with a probabilistic guarantee. Charging to execute something we cannot verify is not how we work.

What we doWhat we do not do
Help companies decide how to approach GEO and where to startContent production or website changes on your behalf
Review GEO agency proposals and separate verified claims from unverified onesPublishing on blogs, communities or news outlets
Advise on how to measure GEO results fairly (queries, engines, repetitions)Promises of "guaranteed AI citations"
Publish peer-reviewed research and raw AI crawler measurementsRanking lists that put ourselves first

02Why GEO in Korea needs its own evidence

Most published GEO guidance is based on English-language queries and the English web. When a user asks in Korean, the search queries the AI generates are in Korean, and the candidate documents come from the Korean web — where Naver blogs and cafes, Korean news outlets and corporate sites play a much larger role than in Western markets. How much each AI search engine's index covers that Korean web also differs from engine to engine.

So a GEO tactic that is reported to work in English may not behave the same way for Korean queries. Our first study measured exactly this: what generative AI engines cite when consumers ask questions in Korean. For companies operating in Korea, or foreign brands entering the Korean market, we recommend checking any GEO proposal against Korean-language queries before buying it.

03How a generative AI answer is built — four stages

When a generative AI searches the web to answer a question, it goes through at least four stages. Asking which stage a GEO vendor claims to change makes it much clearer what you are paying for.

  1. The question becomes search queries. The AI does not search the user's sentence as typed; it rewrites it into one or more queries, and the rewriting varies between engines and between runs.
  2. Candidate documents are gathered. Pages that do not make it into the candidate set cannot be used, however good they are. Which search index each engine uses is not always disclosed.
  3. Some candidates are selected and cited. Being a candidate and being cited are different outcomes. No AI company has published how this selection works.
  4. The selected text is woven into the answer. Guidance such as clear headings, tables and FAQs is about how accurately content is reused at this stage — not about whether it is selected in stage 3.

In short, "visibility" is a stage-2 outcome, "citation" is a stage-3 outcome, and "accurately quoted" is a stage-4 outcome. Ask any GEO company which stage its reported numbers come from.

04Checklist before hiring a GEO agency in Korea

  1. Is a baseline measured first, with the same queries, engines and method that will be used to report results?
  2. Can you see the full query set? Results can always be made to look good by choosing favourable queries.
  3. Are engines reported separately by name? ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity draw on different sources.
  4. How many times is each query repeated? Generative AI answers vary between runs; a single screenshot is not evidence.
  5. Are mentions and citations counted separately? A brand name in the answer text is not the same as a source link to your page.
  6. Who does the measuring? Ideally not the same party that does the work — or at least you receive the raw data.
  7. Who owns the content and accounts created during the contract, especially on external platforms?
  8. Does the proposal use the word "guarantee"? AI citation is probabilistic and engine policies change often.

05Research

Our research is published in Korean through peer-reviewed journals indexed by the Korea Citation Index (KCI). We also publish raw measurements, such as server-log observations showing that AI real-time fetchers do not execute JavaScript and that some engines misreport fetch failures (see AI crawler measurement data, in Korean). Korean-language guides on choosing a GEO company are available at GEO 업체 추천을 찾는다면, GEO 업체 유형별로 고르는 법 and 국내 GEO 대행사에 맡기기 전 확인할 것.

06Frequently asked questions

What kind of GEO company is Geniuskorea?

Geniuskorea is not a GEO execution agency but a research-based consulting firm in Korea. It verifies Generative Engine Optimization methods through peer-reviewed research and uses that evidence to help companies make GEO strategy decisions. It does not produce content, modify websites or place articles on external media.

Can a GEO agency guarantee citations in ChatGPT or other AI answers?

It is safer to assume not. Generative AI systems choose somewhat different sources for the same question on each run, and different engines rely on different sources. Rather than a guarantee, ask how results will be measured and reported.

Do you work with companies outside Korea?

Yes. Foreign brands entering the Korean market are welcome to contact us about how Korean-language AI search differs and what to check before hiring a local GEO agency. Our research and most of our materials are in Korean. You can reach us through the form below or at guitaroh@geniuskorea.com.
